Chris Tiernan serves as the Senior Director of Software Engineering for IT Business Applications at Splunk. He is responsible for Web Development, Application Integration, and Custom Business Applications. His passion for business operations, Agile, and DevOps is rooted in his deep experience leading teams to implement advanced practices that not only increase delivery velocity and reduce business friction, but also cultivate highly empowered teams to do the best work of their careers.

Prior to joining Splunk, Chris spent 18+ years in a variety of capacities helping to pioneer the Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) industry at Salesforce. In Chris’ previous role at Salesforce, he led the long-term strategic and day-to-day delivery of the Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) and Identity and Access Management (IAM) to scale and support the real-time data and security needs of a high-growth, $10B enterprise.

In his role prior to that, he was responsible for leading the implementation, development, and customization of business applications to facilitate business operations across Human Resources, Professional Services, IT, Marketing, Sales, and Support & Service. In addition, he led the day-to-day development and delivery of Salesforce’s global customer-facing web properties in close collaboration with Marketing. In 2001, Chris was honored with Salesforce’s Employee Star Award (Employee of the Year) for his work designing and developing the industry-leading user experience and interface for Salesforce’s flagship CRM application.

Prior to Salesforce, Chris worked at Oracle, leading the design, development, and implementation of user interfaces for web applications built on Oracle’s iFS (Internet File System). He also spent time working for or consulting with various Silicon Valley startups.

Chris holds the following certifications: Salesforce Administrator, Salesforce Advanced Administrator, Salesforce Developer, Salesforce Sales Cloud Consultant, and Salesforce Service Cloud Consultant. In addition to these certifications, he is also a certified Scrum Product Owner and Scrum Master.
